adi Group is thrilled to announce it has achieved 10% of its workforce in apprenticeship positions, honouring its commitment to fostering development and innovation within the engineering industry.
With a long-standing dedication to upskilling the next generation with quality apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship schemes, the firm has consistently prioritised the development of opportunities that differ from traditional academic routes, helping create practical and valuable paths to a rewarding engineering career.
This new achievement shows the upwards trajectory of growth for adi in this pivotal area, having continuously achieved and exceeded its pledge to have 5% of its workforce in apprenticeship positions, honouring its status as a Gold member of The 5% Club.
This year, the business has seen its biggest apprentice intake to date, recruiting 19 full-time apprentices, one of whom enrolled in the scheme after completing adi’s pre-apprenticeship programme, a testament to the viability of both schemes.
Commenting on this milestone, Alan Lusty, CEO, said: “Apprenticeships play a crucial part in the success of our organisation, and they have since its inception.
“We have come incredibly far since the start of our apprenticeship academy, continuously developing it as well as creating a groundbreaking pre-apprenticeship scheme to complement it and further enhance and diversify our offering.”
"The main objective of our apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship schemes is to invest in the future of engineering, contribute to closing the widening STEM skills gap, and dispel outdated myths about engineering for the long-term benefit of the industry,” Alan continued.
“We aim to provide platforms that open doors to opportunities for young people to access, progress and develop within their engineering careers, especially individuals that may otherwise not be able to access them.”
Apprenticeships play a pivotal role in shaping the future of engineering, offering a hands-on, experiential learning pathway that complements theoretical knowledge.
Crucially, apprenticeships in engineering help bridge the gap between academic education and practical application, equipping aspiring engineers with the skills and expertise necessary for success in the field.
Through on-the-job training and mentorship, adi Group’s apprentices gain invaluable insights into real-world engineering challenges, honing their problem-solving abilities and acquiring an in-depth understanding of industry practices.
"We want to facilitate the transfer of knowledge from our seasoned professionals to the next generation, ensuring a continuity of expertise, whether they want to embark on an engineering career within adi or with other engineering firms. It’s about providing young people with valuable, accessible opportunities to enter the industry,” added Alan.
The firm currently has 14 apprentices due to finish the scheme in early 2024, who are likely to be offered full-time roles within the Group.
“As we move forward, we will continue to prioritise and expand our apprenticeship programmes. We firmly believe in investing in our team’s professional growth and providing new talent with the right opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge,” added Alan.
“Ultimately, our apprenticeships are playing a role in the cultivation of a skilled and well-rounded engineering workforce, vital for innovation and progress in the ever-evolving landscape of the industry.”
