OGP UK, part of the Carfulan Group, offer multi-sensor metrology to the manufacturing sector. Circlip and retaining ring specialist Cirteq recently purchased the ZIP Lite 300 and say its offers excellent precision.

West Yorkshire based Manufacturer Cirteq work with some major firms such as Jaguar Landrover, Volvo, Volkswagen, Nissan, BMW and more. The organisation produce critical parts for engine construction and which increasingly must ensure it's quality control processes meet the incredibly high expectations of its customers.

In a bid to innovate and eliminate any errors, Cirteq began searching for innovations in measurement technology and came across OGP UK. Its automated systems utilise a combination of world-leading optical, laser and tactile sensors, eliminating the need for multiple specialised measuring systems and collecting highly accurate data even on the most complex components and features, with speed and reliability.

Theo Speller, Cirteq Customer Quality Liaison Manager, has a clear message for other UK businesses making precision components:

“I’d say that it’s time to take the plunge and get invested in vision systems because you need to match your inspection methods with the inspection methods of your end-users,” he said.

“We went out into the market to look for a machine that could do everything that we needed – it needed to do 3D Renishaw probing and also capture the 2D features.

“The machine that we found through OGP was the ZIP LITE 300. It has a 300mm table and can capture most of our products in the factory, with the Renishaw probing capability to help us build 3D models and capture every dimension our customers require.”

“If you go to a robot line you’ll see a camera over the top of it photographing every component and sub-assembly to make sure that it meets all requirements. We have to match that by making sure that our components are right 100 per cent of the time. Our expectations are to drive towards zero PPM.

“We were not getting the repeatability that we needed from manual measurements due to operator bias. That’s the main advantage of this OGP machine – we’ve improved the quality and the accuracy of the measurements and the bonus is we’ve actually managed to do it and save time.

Coveted accolade secured for eighth consecutive year’

3D-printing specialist SYS Systems has been re-accredited with a coveted industry standard from the world’s biggest additive manufacturing company.

The Stratasys re-seller has been awarded UK platinum partner status from its OEM – the eighth consecutive year that the honour has been bestowed on the Derbyshire firm.

The status – the highest possible recognition from Stratasys – is only awarded to high-performing partners based on strict proficiency criteria, including exceptional levels of customer service, training and support to back up machine sales.

Stratasys hierarchy were also impressed with SYS Systems’s Additive Manufacturing Centre, a state-of-the-art demonstration and production facility situated on the Tomlinson Business Park in Foston, near Derby, which homes the very latest 3D-printing technology from across the Stratasys range.

Carfulan Group's SYS Systems produce 3D-printed face shields to support the fight against COVID-19

3D-printing specialist SYS Systems, and part of the Carfulan Group, has joined the fight against coronavirus by launching a project to create protective face shields – and now it’s empowering manufacturers across the UK to do the same.

There is an urgent need to equip thousands of NHS workers, law enforcement professionals and other key workers with full-face plastic visors to enable them to work safely on the front line.

Derbyshire-based SYS and Made in the Midlands member is putting its range of Stratasys 3D printers at its Additive Manufacturing Centre HQ to work, with the aim of creating around 300 masks a week and distributing them to those in most need – including the Royal Derby Hospital.

It has also contacted all customers who own the relevant 3D printers required to do the work and sent them clear, Stratasys-approved designs and instructions to get started. The instructions are available for any manufacturer to download and use by clicking here.

SYS Systems Managing Director Matt Fulton said: “Like everyone else we have been inspired by the efforts of NHS staff and our emergency services in these uncertain times, so we felt it was our duty to do something to assist.

To help maximise hygiene and for ease of shipping, SYS Systems – a Stratasys UK platinum partner and part of the Carfulan Group - is recommending that those able to print protective face shields allow letting the provider or end user of the items to assemble them.

Those who can produce visors or shields in bulk but who do not have a customer for them are being urged to send them to SYS Systems for wider distribution.

Derbyshire engineering group Carfulan is making its technology services available to UK manufacturers who have been affected by the coronavirus outbreak.
