Process gas burner spcialist, Lanemark Combustion Engineering Ltd. has a long history of successful installations in the food and beverage sector – and a recent facility installed in South Wales highlights the performance and benefits behind the company’s equipment.

Express Contract Drying Ltd. (ECD) is gaining from Lanemark technology on a series of drying facilities that need to achieve results which not only meet accepted industry standards, but that also help to maintain ECD’s leading reputation in the industry – the company is the largest toll sprayer in the UK.

Nick Ball, Operations Director at ECD’s Ebbw Vale facility, one of two operated by the company in the area, explains the key role played by the Lanemark installations.

“We have built a leading reputation over 35 years for the supply of dried food flavourings and colourings, mostly for the UK snack sector,” he says. “This is centred on five process lines which handle a combination of water, a carrier such as potato starch and the added flavour, all of which are blended into an emulsion that is then transferred to one of the processing vessels. Here, the action of the heat created by the Lanemark burner evaporates the water from the mixture to leave a powdered flavour that is then moved forward for packaging and despatch,” he said.

“The installations at the ECD site feature our duct burner – or DB – design,” added Adrian Cadman, Process Burners Sales Manager at Lanemark Combustion Engineering. “Each is fitted to a mounting plate that is bolted into the process air duct, acting as a transition box, with a fan then driving the heated air through connected ducting to the point where the emulsion is sprayed into the process.” Importantly, the designs, which also incorporate a panel, booster and exhaust fan, ensure there is no direct flame impingement on the product itself.

Lanemark have installations on all five vessels, all include the process air fan, a modulating gas valve train, control box and elements of the stainless-steel ducting.

“It is also vital that we are able to closely control the heated air temperature to reflect variations such as volume, and type of emulsion involved,” adds Nick Ball. “Each installation can deliver a required temperature level of, typically, between 180°C and 200°C, with excellent heat up and temperature stability characteristics.”

The company also benefits from Lanemark’s BurnerCare service support package which includes a planned servicing programme that helps to ensure continuous plant operation.

The range of flavourings and coatings that can be produced at ECD’s Ebbw Vale facility not only reflects the versatility of the company’s operation but also the need for ongoing, reliable output. NEW APPRENTICESHIP ACHIEVEMENTS SIGNAL LANEMARK’S CONTINUING COMMITMENT TO PERSONNEL DEVELOPMENT

The commitment to personnel development that is one of the key elements behind the ongoing success of process gas burner specialist, Lanemark Combustion Engineering Ltd. is, once again, in clear view. The Nuneaton-based company is announcing the successful completion of apprenticeship courses by four key employees – all of whom have now gained Advanced Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering.

“All four deserve our congratulations for achievements that pay testimony to their commitment to the company and their technical capability,” says Paul Collier, Lanemark’s Managing Director. “We have long been committed to creating career and skill development routes for all of our employees and this is the latest example of this approach in practice.”

Conrad Hackett, Joe Brown and Rhys Bennett all achieved Advanced Apprenticeship certification in Mechanical Engineering, underlining their position as core members of Lanemark’s production team. “Rhys and Conrad’s focus has been on electrical panel building while Joe has concentrated on all areas of our burner production,” adds Paul Collier.

At the same time, Matthew Jee, who has also achieved Advanced Apprenticeship in Maintenance Engineering, has become the first apprentice at the company to follow the full maintenance pathway by also completing additional external training to become an ACS-qualified Gas Safe registered engineer.

“As we continue to grow, it is clear that the skills that all four now possess represent our belief in ongoing development. Apart from being of clear benefit to the apprentices themselves, the achievements are of particular note both to Lanemark as a company and, of course, our customers both in the UK and internationally,” concludes Paul Collier.

Lanemark supports customers through COVID-19 pandemic

Nuneaton based manufacturer Lanemark Combustion Engineering has stayed open to support customers and deal with new enquiries. They have also taken extra precautions regarding social distancing by splitting their staff across two facilities.

Lanemark Combustion Engineering Ltd design, manufacture, supply and install heating burner systems, which maximise process plant thermal efficiency and minimise both operating cost and impact on the environment.

The Midlands manufacturer has decided to keep their production running in order to support the manufacturing sector. Like many other businesses, Lanemark’s office staff is working remotely to support customers whilst production staff are still working at their facility to fulfil orders.

In order to do this, the firm has implemented social distance measures for production staff and has closed the facility to any visitors. In a recent statement issued by the company they said:

“To support all our customers, we are continuing to operate as normal. Our manufacturing facility is fully operational with all personnel distance working, and our office remains open although we are operating remote working where possible. Our service engineers will continue to attend service visits, breakdown calls and commissioning visits as usual.”

Adrian Cadman, Sales Manager at Lanemark, told the Made in Group why they decided to keep production operating. He said:

“To maintain customer service, production is still required. As many of our customers are OEMs, supporting frontline sectors, we are still needed to service customers machinery. However we are making sure to keep up with social distancing measures.”

The company has recently invested in a new production unit, close to their original facility in Nuneaton. This enabled the company to move certain capabilities to the new premises, whilst still adhering to Government advice. Jeff Foster, Sales Director at Lanemark said:

“We have been able to locate a range of fabrication operations, such as machining and welding, to the new facility which has sufficient space available to enable us to maintain appropriate distances between workstations.”

“The role now being played by the extended premises may not be exactly as originally foreseen, but it is helping us and our customers maintain a degree of manufacturing and processing operations during these challenging times.”

LANEMARK’S INSTALLS LATEST GAS BURNER TECHNOLOGY AT ROMOLD

Lanemark's customer and plastic specialist’s Romold is benefiting from the latest process of gas heating thanks to the engineering firm. Rotational moulding operations are undertaken by the Livingston-based company feature a Lanemark FDGA forced draught burner system which is delivering clear benefits in terms of both improved operations and greater energy efficiency.

Maximising energy efficiency and reducing emissions is the prime targets of any process heating application, in which the FDGA forced draught burner system achieves. One of the ways in which this application reduces emissions whilst optimising efficiency is through heat released directly to the airflow. All of the available energy is delivered to the process.

Talking about their latest installation at Romold, Lanemark Sales Manager, Adrian Cadman said: “Over time, the company’s gas burner had reduced inefficiency and, indeed, some of the spares and consumables it can need had, effectively, become obsolete – so the gains that could be achieved by the new installation were clear cut.”

A Lanemark FD30GAN-3 burner, rated at 1,320 kW, together with a combustion air fan inlet filter, control system and associated pipework upgrade are all now operational at the site. The improvement in efficiency was evident from day one, according to the company’s Production Planning Manager, Michael Adams –

“Our old burner would take some 45 minutes to reach the target temperature of 260°C, which has now been reduced to just five minutes,” he says. “Heat distribution is also very even throughout the chamber which has a direct operational input on the quality of the product that is at the heart of our reputation.”

The Lanemark burner fires through the wall of a Rotospeed machine within which a multi-directional arm, that supports the mould, moves to achieve the optimum flow of the heated crushed polyurethane pellets that are central to the rotational moulding process.

“Significantly, the design of the FDGA burner features an electronic variable speed drive which receives temperature control signals from the system temperature controller, interfacing them directly with the combustion air fan motor,” explains Adrian Cadman. “When the required process operating temperature has been reached a control signal is sent to the burner controls and the combustion air fan speed slows down reducing the air pressure that it generates. This is then transmitted to the latest generation gas/air modulating control valves so that the gas flow is reduced proportionally.” He adds that this not only helps to maximise efficiency but also eradicates the need for mechanical linkages which can be prone to slippage or wear and tear.

The Lanemark installation at Romold has been supplied complete with the burner manufacturer’s BurnerCare support package which delivers ongoing operational confidence via a combination of factors that include service agreements, spares supply and engineer support.

RECIPROCAL AGREEMENT WITH TURKISH DISTRIBUTOR ENHANCES LANEMARK COMBUSTION ENGINEERING CAPABILITY

Process gas burner specialist, Lanemark Combustion Engineering Ltd., is announcing a major agreement with a new distributor in Turkey. The link with YETEN Combustion and Energy Technologies Ltd., based in Istanbul, will create opportunities for both organisations to add each other’s burner equipment to its range – with each enhancing its services to its customer base.

“YETEN is very well established in the field of high temperature burners which are used extensively in areas such as metal processing,” says Adrian Cadman, Lanemark’s Sales Manager. “Now, by being able to make selected burners from their range available to our own market, we will be able to develop our involvement in areas such as steel and aluminium manufacturing.”

With an ongoing focus on research, development and design – including use of state of the art Fluent Computational Fluid Dynamics – and on providing eco-friendly-solutions, YETEN’s reputation reflects the philosophy that has underpinned Lanemark’s own worldwide success for some four decades.

“The organisation also offers extensive test facilities which, again, mirrors our own growing capability in this area,” adds Adrian Cadman.

The agreement with YETEN is also set to strengthen Lanemark’s own burner sales in the new distributor’s markets. The company’s (FD) forced-draught oven burners, (TX) tank heating burners and its (DB) duct burners – each used extensively in processing and manufacturing operations from aluminium anodising to food processing – will, in turn, all enhance YETEN’s own market strength.
