Walsall FC Community Programme and Made in Group donate PPE to Palliative Care Centre

Walsall FC Community Programme delivered a package of personal protective equipment to staff at Fair Oaks Day Hospice and Walsall Palliative Care Centre in Bloxwich last Wednesday (27 May).

The donation included 400 protective face shields, manufactured by Stephens Plastic Mouldings and Central Scanning Ltd, and the visors will help in the fight against Covid-19.

Adam Davy, Director of Walsall FC Community Programme, said: “Although it has been a difficult period of time for everyone, we have continued to do what we can to engage with and support the local community.

“Our relationship with the Made in Group has gone from strength to strength over the last two years. Receiving and donating the visors further enhances this and I am sure they will be put to good use.”

Stephens Plastics and Central Scanning are members of Made in the Midlands, who sponsor Walsall FCCP kit with their ‘Made Equal’ Inclusivity Campaign.

Made in the Midlands arranged delivery of the equipment to the Community Programme, which will now aid the local community in the battle against Coronavirus.

Jason Pitt, CEO of the Made in Group, said: “We started the Made Medical campaign to help those working on the frontline battling COVID-19. It is important that we help as much as we can when people are risking their lives every day to protect ours. This campaign has allowed us to commission local SMEs to produce visors, which are much needed, and offers these companies work in a time when manufacturing has suffered.

“We are delighted and proud of everyone who has been a part of this campaign who have gone the extra mile to make sure this critical PPE is delivered to healthcare workers."

Walsall Palliative Care Centre delivers high quality medical, nursing and therapy care for local people living with cancer and other serious illnesses, as well as offering support for their families and carers.

Meanwhile, Fair Oaks Hospice, based within the facility, is a specialist daycare centre for people who live in Walsall, offering support for their moderate to complex palliative care needs.

Sindy Dhallu, Care Group Manager for Palliative and End of Life at Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust, added: “We would like to thank all those involved for their generosity in donating visors for health and care workers across Walsall.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by everyone’s kindness.”

Made team buckle up to deliver more face visors to local care homes

The Made in Group, including Made in the Midlands and Made in Yorkshire, have been out on the road this week to deliver vital PPE to healthcare organisations.

Sticking to social distancing measures, CEO Of the Made in Group Jason Pitt and Deputy CEO Charles Addison have already delivered face visors to three care homes, with more delivered today.

Face visors have been delivered to three care homes so far Harmony Care, based in Walsall, Duncan Street Primary Care Centre, based in Wolverhampton, and Five Star Support, based in Willenhall, has been the first to receive life-saving equipment.

In a Facebook post from Five Star Support, they thanked the group for the donation:

Today, members of the team have been out on the road again to deliver face visors to another four care homes: Voyage Care in Birmingham, John Taylor Hospice in Birmingham, New Oscott Village Care Home in New Oscott and Lilies Funeral Directors in Sutton Coldfield.

Help the Made in Group supply PPE to critical sectors

The COVID-19 pandemic has seen many sectors struggle in a time of need, including critical sectors such as health and care. One of the major issues due to the nature of the crisis is the shortage of PPE and face masks for key workers. Help the Made in Group deliver what is vital for key service people to carry out their jobs.

With a network of over 500 manufacturing members across the Midlands and Yorkshire region, The Made in Group is taking this opportunity to join the fight in providing critical equipment for organisations such as the NHS.

The Made in Group, created to challenge the erosion of British Industry, are looking for members who can supply or manufacture PPE to deliver to those who need it most. However, if possible, manufacturers are also welcome to donate this PPE.

Made Medical was created to showcase, not only, the amazing work manufacturers are doing to help this bid, but also the medical and care sector. The Made in Group prides itself on promoting positive manufacturing news and creating a community within the manufacturing sector, two objectives that may be considered vital during these unprecedented times.

This initiative has already seen manufacturers get involved, The Made in Group has commissioned 5,000 visors from a local Midland’s manufacturer who carry out injection moulding work. These critical pieces of equipment will be donated to local NHS and Care trusts and delivered by volunteers from the Made in Group team next week.

Talking about how this idea came about and the recent purchase of face visors, Jason Pitt, CEO of the Made in Group said:

“It is important that the UK can manufacture PPE in Britain, due to current circumstances and disruptions in the Industry. Especially during these difficult times, it is more important than ever to unite British industry and prove the sector's strength.

Made Medical continues to support the community

Whilst lockdown has been eased and society is looking to go back to normal, the risk of COVID-19 is still very prominent. Find out what the Made Medical campaign has done so far and what will happen next.

The Made Medical campaign was started to protect frontline workers with vital PPE. To ensure the Made in Group helped as many frontline workers as possible, the group bid to raise funds to purchase PPE manufactured in the UK to then give to those who need it most.

During April and May 2020, the group has provided over 20 healthcare organisations with face visors, including care homes, hospices and funeral directors. Thanks to members of the Made in Group, these face visors were distributed in both the Midlands and Yorkshire region.

As part of the campaign, the group also held a competition with MIM member TWP Manufacturing Ltd - specialising in the design and manufacture of precision pressings in ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

Donors to the cause had the chance of winning a wheelbarrow from Bull Barrow, part of the TWP group. Mark Weymouth, winner of the wheelbarrow and Managing Director of Plus Automation, said:

“It was a great surprise to win the Made Medical campaign prize competition, and the wheelbarrow will remind me of how the campaign pulled together Midland’s based manufacturers to help the NHS during 2020’s Coronavirus pandemic.

It’s also great that the wheelbarrow is manufactured in Tipton, the heart of the Black Country and the heart of Midland’s manufacturing.”

Thanks to everyone’s donations, the group has purchased over 1,000 face visors from MIM member Central Scanning to distribute across the two regions via the Made in Group members again.

The group is offering 100 visors per member and as long as they let the group know the address they would like the visors to be sent to, the health organisation they are donating the goods to and their contact details.

Face visors helping protect our community

It is no secret that the UK is experiencing a shortage of PPE for frontline workers such as nurses, care home staff and care workers. In a time of uncertainty and adversity, we have seen the manufacturing sector come together and help fight the issues caused by the current pandemic by producing the much needed PPE.

The Made in Group’s new campaign Made Medical has bid to raise £10,000 to commission manufacturers to produce vital PPE for the frontline sector. With the help of Stephens Gaskets producing the goods, so far the group has purchased 5,000 face visors most of which have been donated to those in need across the Yorkshire and Midlands region.

Team members from the Made in Group have been on the road delivering these face visors to the care sector, whilst ensuring their own and others safety. To help get the goods distributed across the Yorkshire region, Made in Yorkshire members of the group have come together to help deliver them.

The 13 care organisations who have received the goods so far seemed to have been pleased, as many have been sharing images on social media thanking the group for the donations.

With many people in the UK living and working from home, some are having to deal with abuse more often than they would before. One of the organisations the group donated to is a Women’s Refugee Centre, an example of those outside of the care sector but in need.

It is important that in a time of adversity, we show positivity going on within the sector especially if it is helping the community. Without manufacturers working around the clock to ensure PPE is distributed to those in need, frontline workers are likely to be less protected from the virus.

Made in Group is donating PPE to the care sector

The Made in Group, created to challenge the erosion of British Industry, is helping front line staff safeguard themselves against COVID-19, with help from members of the group.

Consisting of Made in the Midlands and Made in Yorkshire The Made in Group is a membership network of manufacturers. The group recently launched the Made Medical campaign commissioning members to produce PPE for the health sector.

Kicking off the campaign, an initial order was placed for 5,500 face shields with injection mold specialists and Made in Group member Stephens Gaskets Ltd to increase supply into the care sector and remove purchasing bottlenecks. This vital PPE will be donated to those in need on Friday 24th April, delivered by staff from the Made in Group.

Jason Pitt, CEO of the Made in Group, has called on the government to actively decentralize the purchasing of PPE. Alongside calling to do the same for track and trace once the country emerges from lockdown. Jason said:

“We know from looking at Germany’s highly decentralized system that there is merit in this way of operating.”

Talking about how the idea for the Made Medical campaign came about, Jason added:

“Our team has been working hard to source PPE from the membership so we can supply them to our heroes on the frontline”

“The care sector and in particular care homes seemed to be experiencing shortages, this is particularly heartbreaking when you consider how they are turning up every day for their community, they are often amongst the lowest-paid workers.”

Stephens Gaskets Ltd produced the face visors, 500 of which they donated to the cause. Piers Baynton, Sales Engineer at the firm said:

“As soon as we were contacted we were delighted to get involved and help those who need this vital PPE the most.”

To help the cause further, the group has also set up a JustGiving page for those who would like to get involved. All donations will be issued to the British Supply Chain to produce more PPE to give to those in need.

Baroness Lorely Burt provides face visors to Women's Refugee Centre

As part of the Made Medical campaign, The Made in Group is donating vital PPE to those in need. Recently, Baroness Lorely Burt has donated a number of face visors to a Women's Refugee Centre on behalf of the Made in Group.

Baroness Burt of Solihull, Lorely, told the Made in Group why she decided to get involved with the campaign and why it is important to support those who suffer domestic abuse especially during such difficult times:

“These are tough times for every one of us, but the strain of being cooped up with an abusive partner means that demand for refuge has never been greater. Before the virus, 60% of women approaching refugees had to be turned away. Today the situation is much, much worse.

Acquiring protective equipment is as tough for refugees now as it has been for hospitals and care homes. I know because I'm a patron of a domestic violence hostel in Birmingham.

Women and children are squeezed in under one roof with shared cooking facilities and other shared areas. The danger and the additional stress for women and the professionals who care for them is palpable.

So when a good friend like Jason Pitt says he’s paid for thousands of masks to be manufactured, it was like manna from Heaven.

So while in some areas the virus has brought out the worst in people, in others it has brought out the best. Donating and delivering food, money, looking in on neighbours – every small kindness counts. Jason did what HE could – commissioning manufacturing of masks to help keep people safe.

This has made a big difference to my refugee, who relies on the kindness of others just to survive.”

5 frontline organisations Made Medical has helped

Made Medical is a campaign that was started to help tackle the shortage of PPE and face masks needed for critical services such as the NHS. With the help of our members, Stephens Gaskets and Central Scanning, The Made Medical campaign has already distributed over 5,000 face visors to those who need them most, with plans to distribute another 1,600.

To highlight the amazing work of these organizations and to emphasise the importance of PPE during the pandemic, here are 5 frontline institutions Made Medical has donated face visors to.

Harmony Care Walsall

Harmony care is a support organisation who offer an array of services including home care, community, residential, learning disabilities, supported living and daycare. Tailoring their service provision to “meet the needs of people they support”, their staff are dedicated to providing “innovative and creative support to achieve positive outcomes”.

Duncan Street Primary Care Centre

Duncan Street Primary Care Centre offers treatment and support for people with specific diseases such as Asthma, diabetes and drug monitoring patients taking warfarin or on medication for rheumatoid arthritis. Their clinical team consists of Doctors, Nurses and health care assistants, they also provide maternity services, childhood immunisations and minor surgery.

Lilies Funeral Directors

An independent funeral service, Lilies Funeral Director has funeral homes available 24 hours a day. Their values are to treat customers like one of their family or friends, going above and beyond to make every send-off special. They offer all arrangements, care and support for the deceased’s family.

Atholl House Medical Nursing Home

Atholl House is situated in a suburb of Compton approximately 2.5 miles to the west of Wolverhampton City Centre. They offer the very best in quality nursing care, security and support in a friendly environment. They also comprise of 84 single rooms over 3 units with ensuite facilities equipped for the elderly.

Voyage Care

Voyage Care provides specialist support to over 3,500 people with learning disabilities and complex needs. The organisations offer this to those living at home, supported living, registered care homes or those out in the community.

So far Made Medical has helped over 20 organizations like the ones listed above, and we plan to help more.
