New Microsite and Blog - Wire 2018

The Schmolz + Bickenbach Group is running a microsite dedicated to our participation at the WIRE show in Dusseldorf, April 2018.

Within this Microsite our customers will find information on the booth location, the different Business Units, product portfolio, brochures to download, press releases, etc.

A blog is also attached to this microsite and will be fed with short articles before and during the WIRE.

A Few New Faces

Schmolz + Bickenbach UK are delighted to introduce three new employees have joined the team in Oldbury.

Jess Raybould (left) and Keith Sharman (middle) have both been brought on board to develop Engineering Steel and Bright bar, whilst Phil West (right) will be working as Inside Sales for Stainless Steel.

Jess has worked in the steel industry for nearly four years, mainly covering the Engineering sector. Outside of work Jess enjoys socialising with friends and family, shopping and exploring different cities/countries. (Contact details: j.raybould@schmolz-bickenbach.com, 0121 377 3400)

Having served a metallurgical apprenticeship and qualifying as a metallurgist, Keith has been employed in the Steel Industry for nearly 45 years. During that time he has been employed in senior management roles working with many different products. Keith holds management and business studies qualifications, gaining an MBA in 1990. He enjoys supporting West Bromwich Albion although not so much this season. Finally, Phil graduated from University in 2014 with a 2:1 in Broadcast Journalism and started in the industry in Jan 2015 after spending two years in sales at a multi-metal stockholder, he joined the S+B UK team in December 2017. Outside of work, Phil is an avid sports fan, watching (and playing) football, American Football and golf. When he manages to find some time away from sport, watching TV series (hes very into Billions at the moment) and films occupies his time. Asco Industries acquisition by Schmolz + Bickenbach

SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH takes over parts of Asco Industries

Lucerne, January 29, 2018 - SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH, a world leader for Special Steel,announced today that the competent court selected its offer to acquire the sites and facilities of French-based Asco Industries as of February 1, 2018. The industrial concept of the SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group includes a close integration of Asco Industries into the Group and aims to sustainably improve capacity utilization and market supply.

The takeover strengthens SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group's business in the quality and engineering steel segment and further strengthens its position as one of the leading companies for high-quality specialty long-steel products in Europe. The acquisition follows the strategy of actively participating in the consolidation of the European specialty steel industry. Between the locations and facilities of Asco Industries and the plants of SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH Group, there are excellent possibilities for integrating and supplementing the product range and also within the production network. The sustainable industrial concept will lead to an improved utilization of the plants and thus to a more efficient production strategy and cost advantages.

Asco Industries had around 1,400 employees at year-end 2017 and generated sales of approximately EUR 373 million in 2016. The French group has excellent products and a strong customer base. SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH had 8,900 employees and generated a turnover of EUR 2.3 billion in 2016.

The transaction includes the acquisition of the most important locations of Asco Industries. At these locations, the majority of jobs are secured. At the same time, new jobs will be created as part of the acquisition at SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH's French Ugitech business unit (Ugine, Haute-Savoie). At Asco Industries' previous locations, production remains focused on the production and processing of special steel for the oil & gas, automotive and mechanical engineering markets, as well as the production of ball-bearing steel.

Schmolz + Bickenbach Group will be exhibiting at Wire 2018 in Dusseldorf during the 16^th 20^th April

Wire 2018 is the worlds most important trade fair for the wire and cable industry, it plays host to over 1,300 exhibitors welcoming over 38,000 visitors from 76 different countries.

This years event is due to be the biggest ever in its 30 years history and the Schmolz + Bickenbach group are proud to be part of it.

Stainless Steel wire is one of Schmolz + Bickenbachs core product ranges, we are able to offer wire rods and drawn wire starting at 13 microns diameter.

With our new name Swiss Steel Group we are continuing to move forward and reposition our group. We are on a path of transformation. Our new claim “Together. For a future that matters” summarizes our efforts to achieve joint success in the near and far future.

Schmolz + Bickenbach has been an iconic name. Encompassing the history and people that began this legacy. We are also a company that focuses on improvement, growth, innovative solutions, development and change.

Steel is our backbone, our DNA. It’s what we do best to contribute in shaping a sustainable future. And so we are teaming up – with each other, with customers and suppliers. Together we are designing ever better steel solutions with highest quality and profound passion. Our expertise makes us an experienced ally. In consulting, development, production and services.

After this turbulent year it was time for a change in many aspects and it is time to use the momentum to change the name.

All Business Units that had SCHMOLZ + BICKENBACH in their name will now be known as Swiss Steel. For our mills, Ascometal, Deutsche Edelstahlwerke, Finkl Steel, Steeltec, Swiss Steel and Ugitech will each be called a “Member of Swiss Steel Group” and own a new logo.
Combining our areas of expertise, we have teamed up and now stand together for a future that matters. We look forward to embarking on this journey with you, our customers, suppliers, colleagues and friends.
