Speaking to Bob Hughes and Jaz Tanwar, both Directors at Temple Quality Management Systems, we begin to see how for the company, it&amp;rsquo;s not so much about winning in the current climate, it&#039;s actually about helping their clients with the journey.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/h4&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The Midlands-based company provides a wide range of services includes CQI and IRCA accredited training in quality management, ISO 45001 Occupational health and safety management and also Logistics &amp;amp; Transport Management, accredited by the Chartered Institute of Logistics &amp;amp; Transport (CILT) at both Certificate and Diploma levels.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Given the current situation, we began by outlining what companies across the group should be doing right now in terms of creating a business continuity policy. For Bob, it is all about identifying the key risk that your company may currently be facing, &lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo;Organisation&amp;rsquo;s sought to create what&#039;s called a context of the organization. In it, you&amp;rsquo;ll look at all your internal and external factors, and through that, you&amp;rsquo;ll create a picture of the good things that are going on and the things that are a potential risk, something you can easily list on an Excel spreadsheet.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;But what is a business continuity policy?&lt;em&gt; &amp;ldquo;With business continuity, it provides the opportunity to put Excel spreadsheets in and say, what are my solutions to deal with this issue?&amp;nbsp;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Yet, one key element to come away from our discussion is the idea that &amp;lsquo;we&amp;rsquo;re all in this together.&#039; To this extent, Bob spoke about how it&amp;rsquo;s important to lead by example, and how what is reflected at the top, will often trickle down across the entire company.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo;I think creating some roles and responsibility and some kind of leadership and commitments from the top is very important. I think the first thing to do is create some kind of policy. You&#039;ve got a quality policy, you&#039;ve got a health and safety policy, so why not have some kind of policy of how business continuity will engage the workforce?&amp;rdquo;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;What was important from Bob was the importance of managers taking the lead in implementing this policy.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo;You need to get the people to sign the policy from the top management. Not just one signature on it from a single director or a managing director, but the entire leadership team. That leadership team then has some accountability, not so much about roles, responsibility, and authority, but accountability to support the team.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;This process could include at what point do you notify the customer if there&#039;s some disruption looming, who contacts the customer? Does the business continuity have internal communication processes? Does business continuity connect to the context of the situation and things like that?&amp;rdquo;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;But with the government reporting that we are &amp;lsquo;post-peak&amp;rsquo;, is there still a need to make a plan? Well, in the words of Bob, yes there is, as the threat of a &amp;lsquo;second wave&amp;rsquo; means companies should be using the experience they learn here and now to prepare for the future.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo;I firmly believe it&#039;s potentially here to stay. It&#039;s an endemic situation that could come back, which means it&#039;s likely to return. Yes, it could clear up, but it could come back any time. So, I think organizations have had this severe jolt, and it&amp;rsquo;s something they won&#039;t forget in a long, long time.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;For Bob, a business continuity policy is akin to an exercise program you would implement doing dry runs on simulated disasters. &lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo;It&#039;s become more and more paramount to do a company exercise. For example, if you&#039;re buying stuff from abroad where there&#039;s a high risk of an earthquake risk, terrorism or even manufacturing disputes, then clearly business continuity and not that old fashion concept of going to Plan B is more and more paramount than ever.&quot;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;What&amp;rsquo;s the final piece of advice from the team at Temple Quality Management Systems?&lt;em&gt; &amp;ldquo;My takeaway point is that you should create policies, commitments and enthusiasm to make a difference to your organization.&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&lt;em&gt;Because of the current situation, everyone finds themselves in, you&#039;ve got to make sure you are using all of these so that when you do start again, you&#039;re at the top of your game and you&#039;ve got everything covered. I think of business continuity like quality, safety, environmental or information security. To deliver consistently, you need these processes to have openness.&amp;rdquo;&lt;/em&gt;&lt;/p&gt;]]></description>

&lt;p&gt;ISO/PAS&amp;nbsp;45005 brings together international best practice on how to manage the health and safety of employees and stakeholders during the COVID-19 pandemic and is intended to complement any existing national guidelines and regulations.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Experts from 26 countries worked tirelessly to produce the guidelines in the form of a publicly available specification (PAS), which was approved by the 80 member countries of ISO&amp;rsquo;s technical committee for occupational health and safety management. This format allows the document to then be updated in its present form or be developed into a formal standard, depending on the future course of the pandemic and emergence of new information.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Sally Swingewood, Manager of the committee that developed the document, said it provides practical recommendations on managing any risks arising from COVID-19 and is applicable regardless of an organisation&amp;rsquo; location or status.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;&amp;ldquo;We recognise that not every business has a dedicated human resources or OH&amp;amp;S function,&amp;rdquo; she said.&lt;/p&gt;

&lt;p&gt;&lt;strong&gt;Members of the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO) Technical Committee have taken the surprising decision not to proceed with the much-anticipated update of ISO 9001:2015.&lt;/strong&gt;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;/div&gt;
&lt;p&gt;TC176/SC2 conducted a systematic review of ISO 9001:2015&amp;nbsp;&lt;em&gt;&amp;ldquo;Quality management systems &amp;mdash; Requirements&amp;rdquo;&lt;/em&gt;. By the narrowest of margins, they agreed that ISO 9001:2015 should be unchanged.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The committee proposes that:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;It will examine if a revision of ISO 9001 should be started earlier than would usually be determined through the systematic review process&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The Strategic Planning and Operations Task Group (SPOTG) should review the full portfolio of SC2 standards&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;A bit about ISO 9001&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ISO 9001 is one of the most recognised standards in the world. According to the latest data, there are 878,664 valid certificates related to 1,180,654 sites across the globe.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ISO 9001 specifies requirements for a QMS when an organisation:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Needs to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide products and services that meet customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;Aims to enhance customer satisfaction through the effective application of a QMS, including processes for improvement of the system, assurance of conformity to customer and applicable statutory and regulatory requirements&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The standard is also the basis for numerous industry standards that define the requirements for management systems in sectors including automotive, aircraft, and medical device manufacturing. Tens of millions of people around the world are involved in the development and use of quality management systems based on the ISO 9001 standard.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;ISO 9001 was first published in 1987. Like all ISO standards, it is subject to periodic review to ensure its continuing relevance and usefulness. ISO 9001 and has been revised four times since then, to address the challenges of changing economies, advances in technology and trends in society. The current version of ISO 9001 was published in 2015.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;Reviewing the standard&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In 2020, TC176/SC2 undertook a systematic review of ISO 9001:2015. It also conducted survey of ISO 9001 Users. The purpose of the survey was to gather the thoughts of ISO 9001 end users on the current version of the Standard and to secure their ideas as to what new material the next edition of the Standard should contain.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In addition to the systematic review, and results of the user survey, TC176/SC2 took into consideration:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;A report on the&amp;nbsp;&lt;a href=&quot;https://www.quality.org/knowledge/future-direction-quality-management-standards&quot;&gt;Future Concepts&lt;/a&gt;&amp;nbsp;and brand integrity&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;A report on the potential impacts of the revision of the Annex SL &amp;ldquo;High Level Structure&amp;rdquo; on ISO 9001&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;Outcomes&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The review resulted in a majority vote to leave ISO 9001:2015 unchanged. This may mean that, following a further systematic review starting in 5 years, plus time for the review, and then allowing for 3 years of development time, a new edition of ISO 9001 may not be published until 2030.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Many users wish to see the standard revised to improve clarity and to give greater value to users. The business environment is changing so quickly, with factors being accelerated both by the Covid-19 pandemic and by the continued pace of digital transformation.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;Consequently, it is proposed that a project should be started at the preliminary stage of the standard lifecycle, to examine if a revision of ISO 9001 should be started earlier than would usually be determined through the review process.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;h3&gt;CQI&amp;rsquo;s response&lt;/h3&gt;
&lt;p&gt;CQI strongly believes that ISO 9001 must provide a framework on which organisations can base their system for managing quality, that is fit for a digitally transformed world, and delivers value to all stakeholders. If the revision of ISO 9001 is delayed, the standard risks becoming out-of-date with industry best practice and of diminishing value to all stakeholders. The CQI does not agree with the decision to confirm the standard and would support initiatives that attempt to bring the date of the next revision forward.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;In preparing for revisions to ISO 9001, CQI will bring to the attention of TC176/SC2 four factors it considers critical to the future integrity of ISO 9001:&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;ul&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The CQI&amp;rsquo;s Quality Futures report on the Future of Work, discussing the effect of digital transformation on workforce, workflow, and workplace&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The increasing prominence of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) factors&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;TC176/SC2&amp;rsquo;s work on Future Quality Concepts&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;li&gt;The CQI&amp;rsquo;s research programme on Quality 4.0&lt;/li&gt;
&lt;/ul&gt;

&lt;p&gt;Mental ill health is responsible for 91 million working days lost every year. ​1 in 4 people in the UK will experience a mental health problem this year.&amp;nbsp;&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The training courses will be available online and classroom based, and provide training in a safe, inclusive learning environment and every Mental Health First Aid course is delivered by a qualified instructor that is accredited by the Royal Society for Public Health.&lt;/p&gt;
&lt;p&gt;The courses are designed to help managers and employees maintain positive mental health and enable them to realise their true potential, which makes coping with the pressures of life and work easier.​&lt;/p&gt;
