The Company has been turned around from Administration to present day investing 225k in new machinery and we are pleased to announce that we have just taken on our first apprentice and hope to take on more in the future.

After attending a Made in the Midlands workshop aimed at helping members use their online profile more effectively, and acting on the advice given, Yeoman Pressings certainly witnessed the benefits.

The Wolverhampton based company had already recorded 2261 views on their profile by November since the profile went live in March of last year. After attending a workshop in November, Graham Yeomans, Commercial and Technical Director of Yeoman’s Pressings, acted on the advice given in the workshop on how Made in the Midlands, alongside an active social media presence, can massively improve a company’s ability to publicise their profile.

Graham explained: “I acted on all I learnt at the MIM workshop about keywords, SEOs and LinkedIn, the next day. Over the next two months the number of views on our profile rocketed to 3841. That’s an increase of 1580 views in the space of two months, which is excellent proof that the workshops really do work and are well worth taking the time to attend.”

Graham endeavors to continue utilizing the features of Made in the Midlands to their full advantage. Graham added: “We will continue putting these things into practice. When we have news it goes straight to Made in the Midlands.” Membership offers the opportunity to upload unlimited news content to the homepage, which is shareable through social media and will remain online for the duration of membership.

The monthly sessions include guidance on how to upload quality news content, message other members, use the resource section and how to integrate Made in the Midlands into a member’s existing site as well as be an opportunity to speak to other member companies. Member manufacturing and engineering companies from varying levels of the supply chain are welcome to attend.

The workshops are held, on a monthly basis, at Made in the Midland’s Wolverhampton headquarters, Unit 7, Pendeford Place, Pendeford Business Park, Wolverhampton, WV9 5HA. Breakfast and complimentary refreshments are served during the morning. Workshops begin at 8:00am and aim to finish around 9:30am.

YEOMAN PRESSINGS LTD TAKES ON A NEW APPRENTICE

The age of the apprentice returns. We have recently taken on a new apprentice from the LEMA Academy based in Dudley College Campus. Patrick Langon started with us back in October 2012. He has settled in really well and will be a real asset to this company going forward. Because of the success of Patrick we will be looking to take on further apprentices in the future.

Having taken an order for £30,000 from one of our key customers which was for export, and to be on a ship that was leaving on 16thFebruary, we definitely had to get it done.

As is always the case in situations like this ‘life’ put a ‘spanner in the works’.

Our 3m Amada CNC Pressbrake, which dated back to 1987 (the prototype?) suddenly went down. We got the Amada guys in and they efficiently got it going again by ‘robbing’ parts from our 2m Pressbrake. 24 Hours later, the 3m was down again with a different problem. After 25 years of continuous use it was starting to show its age.

So having spoken to the service engineers again, I found our only option to ensure a reliable service for our customers was the possibility of a re-conditioned machine, if they had one!

I phoned their Sales Engineer Simon Scott at 11am, sat down to discuss things at 12 noon and shook hands for a brand new AMADA HFE M2 3M at 1pm!

Through Simon’s help and the fantastic speed that Amada worked, we had the new machine in place in 5 days (including the weekend) I am pleased to say with a few extra shifts put in by the YPL team (including me as an operator and general ‘donkey’) we got the order out on time!

A positive result and we now have a 3m Amada Pressbrake which due to its capabilities has improved our set up times and almost eliminated material wastage during set up.

New Shoring

We pride ourselves on our products that are Made-in-Britain and in the last 12 months have won a project that had previously only been made abroad.

A company came to us with a product issue. The steel assemblies they required, which had always made and shipped in from overseas, were causing several problems. Of these issues, the major problem was that the packing was so poor that the products were bent and misshapen and very difficult to un-tangle on the production line seriously slowing down the output and therefore the efficiency of the production cell. Therefore making the true delivered cost a lot higher than what was on paper!

We priced up a solution which was only 4.5% more than the on paper price, taking on 40% of the whole project, producing and assembling the product in-house and designing a unique delivery system so it was kept in shape at all times from our factory to the customers production line.

So successful and cost efficient was this initial phase, and the delivery system was such a hit with our customers production staff, that we have now taken on the whole project!

This isnt just re-shoring work lost from the UK, this is winning work that was never in the UK in the first place.

We call this a successful NEW SHORING job.

Graham scores 20 years of employment

The Managing Director of a Wolverhampton pressings manufacturer is celebrating 20 years with the company.

Graham Yeomans started as a delivery truck driver for the family business Yeoman Pressings. He subsequently worked his way through every process in the company to reach the boardroom.

Graham, who is also Vice President of Made in the Midlands said: I have officially been on the books at Yeoman Pressings now for 20 years, although I have been on the shop floor since the age of three!

The Coseley based company celebrates 50 years in business this year and currently employs 42 people.

Recently at Yeoman Pressings we had the pleasure of celebrating the 80th Birthday of one of our much loved employees, Brian Baker. Brian has been with Yeoman Pressings since May 2000 and always gives 100% in his role within Quality Assurance and has steered us well in the past with his vast knowledge in this area, we are very thankful that Brian chose to stay on with us rather than take his retirement. We wish Brian "Many happy returns" for this special birthday and many more years with us here at Yeomans.

Congratulations to Adam Scriven in his new role. Adam firstly came to Yeoman Pressings on a works experience initiated by his Mother who is also an employee of Yeoman Pressings. He came for a week and we found him to be a keen learner and very polite individual.

On leaving school Adam applied for a permanent job with us and started full time employment in January 2007. He has worked in various areas on the workshop floor and we are delighted to announce that Adam has now been promoted to Team Leader of a new project which started this January.

We wish Adam well in his new position and feel confident that he will blossom in this challenging role.

30 Years Service at Yeoman Pressings ltd

Yeoman Pressings have just celebrated with one of their employees, Brenda Dabbs, on reaching her 30 years service. Brenda started working with Yeomans on the 13thJuly 1982. She heard of the job through her daughter’s friend and decided to give it a go as she had taken redundancy from her previous job at the BSR in Old Hill and previous to that had managed shops.

She came to Yeomans as a press operator and hated it at first but gradually got used to it and after 10 years was moved to dispatch which she enjoyed much more. She was eventually made Team Leader and still works in that position today working 3 days a week. The factory would not be the same without Brenda she takes on everyone’s problems and concerns, she is very caring and is loved by all staff and employees.

Brenda’s husband is retired and they have two daughters and three grandchildren. They both help out with looking after their youngest grandchild Zac during the week. In her spare time Brenda enjoys making cakes and going on cruises. Brenda will be celebrating her 70thbirthday next year and we sincerely hope that Brenda carries on her good work within the Yeoman Pressings flock.

MOVEMBER IN THE MIDLANDS

Graham Yeomans of Yeoman Pressings Ltd has become a Mo Bro.

During the month of November each year thousands of men around the world become Mo Bro’s by sprouting moustaches. The aim is to raise awareness for mens’s health specifically Prostrate Cancer and Testicular Cancer.

Starting on the 1st November with a clean shaven face each Mo Bro must grow and groom a moustache.

This was first started in Melbourne, Australia and has now spread to the rest of the world.

Graham has had tremendous support from all his work colleagues and consequently has raised £180.00.

Well done Graham.

YEOMAN PRESSINGS LTD – NEW TRUMPF PUNCH PRESS

Having realized that our CNC Punch Presses were becoming aged, and we were experiencing more frequent breakdowns, which caused capacity issues as well as painful repair costs (dead money), it was decided that we needed to look at investment in newer equipment sooner than we had initially planned.

Although we had only planned to procure second hand equipment we approached Trumpf to see whether they had any reconditioned secondhand machines in stock. Well, through various negotiations about the capabilities and price of a new machine, and due to the tremendous support of Mark Stuart from Nat West Bank and Jo Asbury of Lombard, we finally shook hands and took delivery in June of a brand new Trumpf Trupunch 1000 which is capable of forming strengthening ribs as well as tapping.

Yeoman Pressings value the importance of their employees and proof of this is highlighted in the fact that their 35 employees have clocked up 322 years service between them. We have many family members working together as part of our team and we rarely have to advertise for staff as vacancies will be filled by other family members or friends. Darren Parsons and Brenda Dabbs have celebrated their 30 years service this year.

It is more than half a century since Yeomans Pressings started operating.

In 1963 Mr Yeomans began the company with a single fly press in his cellar before setting up in Cradley Heath as a subcontract presswork supplier to the automotive industry until it was sold in 1993.

Since then the company has undergone a few transitions of ownership including in 2010 when Graham Yeomans the grandson of the original founder became one of four equal owner/directors.

As of August 2017 Yeoman Pressings Ltd saw another leadership change to that of Graham Yeomans and his wife and fellow employee Tracey Yeomans buying the company outright and fulfilling a lifelong goal of Graham who always wished to bring the company back into the family.

Yeoman Pressings Limited has gone from strength to strength and today has a turnover of £3 million. The core focus of the business is to deliver the best service a subcontact manufacturer of metalwork and subassemblies can.

To achieve this they continue to incorporate both traditional presswork and modern CNC turret punching technology all under one roof which in itself is possibly unique having both codes under one roof.

This years Made in the Midlands exhibition on the 14th May was a resounding success for local manufacturing and very positive for Yeoman Pressings. It was great to see and talk to so many people and the initial response so far is very encouraging.
